Pyaasa [2002] Pyaasa is the story of Sooraj Thakur (Aftab Shivdasani), a young man trapped in a tangled web of avarice, intrigue and love. Coming from a family with ancestral property of great value that his father and uncle will not allow him to sell, and constantly compared to his uncle's son Prem (Syed Zulfi) who has made a name for himself in the business world, Sooraj vows to find his own way to riches. He comes across Sheetal Oberoi (former Miss Universe Yukhta Mookhey), owner of a large group of companies who offers him a job and a large salary. Slowly their working relationship turns to friendship and then love. Until in walks Prem, who with his kindness and love wins over Sheetal's affections, leaving Sooraj smarting from the rejection.
As the plot unravels, Sooraj comes to know that his meeting with Sheetal was not a coincidence after all. Something terrible had happened in the past that ties them together and has made Sheetal thirsty for revenge. Greed, obsession, love, lust and sacrifice--the film takes us through a journey of emotions until its very unpredictable ending. Yukhta Mookhey, on screen for the first time, gives a brilliant performance and the film also introduces another newcomer, Syed Zulfi, in a heart-rending role.
On the DVD:Pyaasa is presented in 5.1 digital sound with English subtitles and special song and scene selections. --Anika Puri

Recently the media has been dissing her like crazy. I think it's high time the media stops picking on her. There are surely other things that can be reported about than to pick on Yukta Mookhey. It's sad to see that the once darling of a nation is being talked about this way.
As you may recall all of the top newspaper, magazines & internet sites, were ga ga over Ms. Mookhey when she won the Miss World crown. Apart from water she was probably the most important commodity in the country at that time.
Fine, we get it, it's been a while since her last release. But give her a chance. As I recall, her performance was appreciated even in her other films (Pyaasa, Katputtli). It's not her fault the height conscious hero's of bollywood fall short to her.
And what's this about b-grade/c-grade films. Atlease she's not part of the crap that's being dished out in bollywood, including the 99.9 percent plot rip-offs of hollywood films. Memsahab is supoose to be based on the riots of '84 at least it's not a rip-off.
The people who are bad mouthing the film will probably the first to tune in when the film is shown on TV. As long as it's free people will watch anything Ekta Kapoor serials are a prime example of that.
Do we need to remind the media which films Rani Mukherjee and Madhuri Dixit began their careers with. Her time will come and then the whole world including the media will be at her feet once again. By: bib on the March 28th, 2008
